THE NINJA
The Latest & Greatest in creating your awesomeness!

It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day, which also means it’s almost time for Not Just Lucky, our 28-day Fitness & Health Intensive to launch! I’m so excited for spring and loving this increasingly beautiful weather, more so than the Vernal equinox I feel like a day centered around all things green and rainbows feels like the start of Spring. That’s also why this month’s theme is Luck (in case you haven’t been following the blog… why don’t you follow the weekly blog?!)

We’ve touched a bit on what makes someone “lucky” and the BIG first step to overcoming luck barriers today I’m going to touch on the Second most important key to being lucky: freeing your mind. So often we are caught up in what we believe is possible. We all have limiting beliefs as to what is doable, for us, for the people we know—you know you had beliefs about what you thought your brother, your niece or your co-worker was capable of in whatever realm, your response to their telling you was probably like “pfffft, good luck with that” then they blew your mind with their “luck”—or even what is possible in general. A funny quote I love is from Robert Milliken in 1923, he was winner of the Nobel Prize for Physics and said “There is no likelihood that man can ever tap the power of the atom.” The same likelihood was believed of “flying machines”, and the U.S. patent office director in 1889 said that all potential inventions had already been invented. You see how there is no room for luck here, you cannot possibly invent something if you think it’s impossible nor could you make a plane if you thought it impossible and didn’t even try. Luck is simply an impossibility with a closed mind. If you open your mind to possibility you will try new things, and most importantly you will see all the opportunities that come your way. Nobody says you have to take every opportunity or try every new thing, but make that a choice rather than being blind to possibility, because even “blind luck” is usually someone who’s open-minded, but slim-chanced. Start paying attention to what you tell yourself about what is possible and you will see more opportunities and be luckier than you ever thought possible.

Having trouble with a lucky mindset? Or are you ready to take action and insure you’re Not Just Lucky? Either way, CREATE can help:

It’s a great season to be Canadian! It’s maple syrup season! Of course we all need to limit the sugar in our diets. This month however, I am going to suggest that some of the sugar in your diet be replaced with maple syrup. You ask why? For starters it’s pricey, and that means you are far less likely to overdo it. It’s got nothing removed but the water, which means there is still some mineral content in there, unlike white sugar. It’s not a liquid multivitamin though, don’t fool yourself! You get the same level of sweetness with less, so you only need to use about 2/3 to ¾ of the amount you would with sugar. It’s made locally and produced using simple methods, so it’s environmentally and economically friendly. It’s so Canadian it’s our national tree and the star of our flag, it’s okay to be a bit patriotic when nomming. Lastly and certainly most important because it is one of nature’s tastiest treats!

This month there is no actual recipe (quite honestly I couldn’t pick among so many tasty and even healthy things I make with it!) It’s more of a maple syrup reminder. So many neglect this natural resource (yup, actually!) due to its price. Don’t. Enjoy it, and appreciate it in moderation, and throw out that 3% (or less) crap you usually put on your pancakes. That’s all you ever use it on anyway, because it’s not very good, and it’s terrible for you. You’ll enjoy your pancakes and much more with a touch of the real Canadian deal!

Suggested uses, and substitutions for other sweeteners:
Tea/coffee
Yogurt and smoothies
Baking (don’t do too much baking though!)
Salad dressings
In glazes for fish and meat
Instead of chocolate or caramel sauces (I can’t even believe I wrote that, but I know someone reading this has some kicking around)
Granolas and homemade cereals
Anywhere you’d use sugar or honey and a taste of maple would be a wonderful twist
Try a medium (b grade, amber) or dark syrup (c grade, dark amber) for even more maple-y flavour (and sometimes a little bit less cost)
OM NOM NOM!

Shortly after this sunrise I experienced a great stroke of luck. I won a cycling 142km race I hadn't planned on participating in! But hard work training leading up to that day meant that when a random and lucky chance arose for me to take the lead, I had worked hard enough to actually keep the lead and win.
