Jasmine asked: How do I get rid of my spare tire? (this applies to any type of trunk/belly fat)
Tip #1: Slow down on the sugar and low quality fats. Read all of the ingredients of your favourite packaged foods (even the healthy ones), and see how much sugar you're intaking. The World Health organization recommends no more than 10% of total daily calories coming from sugars, but 5% is really the ideal, that's about 6 tsp or 25grams of sugar for an average adult. We've been taught to be afraid of fat, but this is silly, we need fats they are an integral part of of our makeup. The problem is we get much of our fat from low quality sources that our bodies can't use or at least can't use as efficiently. Fresh nuts, seeds, avocados, grass-fed butter, fish oil cold-pressed oils such as flax, hemp and olive, oh, and olives too are great sources of healthy fats. Ones to avoid would be fried, especially deep-fried and from a restaurant where who knows how old the oil is, trans fats, and hydrogenated oils like margarine (even those heart healthy ones).
Tip #2: Do cardiovascular exercise and exercise your core muscles. Cardiovascular exercise will burn extra calories and help to improve your heart health (even if you don't have heart problems this is still spot-on advice). Strengthening core muscles helps to have a bit of a "tummy- tuck" effect, even if you haven't lost a pound your profile may look and measure up to be a bit slimmer.
Tip #3: Walk tall and sit tall. Never underestimate the power of a little bit of good posture in assisting you in looking slimmer, feeling more confident and contributing to overall good posture over the long-term, alleviating and/ or keeping away aches and pains that come with extended time with poor posture. Practice just 30 seconds to a minute at a time while walking or sitting anywhere from the street to your home to your workplace and see how this will build your confidence and your form.
