Here are some quick tips for you to get through Halloween feeling Awesome about your candy consumption choices!
Here are a few tips to make that easier:
If you haven't already bought candy. good for you! That takes care of having it around as temptation on the days leading up to Halloween.
Go ahead and buy stuff that really isn't your favourite, I don't like rockets and twizzlers at all, wouldn't take one if you offered it. Maybe there's something you think is barely edible, that's what you're looking for. Halloween is really about the kids anyhow right?!
Once you've got it in the house it needs to go on lockdown (unless you got stuff you don't like at all). Get out a garbage bag, put it all in and knot that bag a good three times, don't open it until 5:15pm, or until the first kid knocks, whichever comes first!
Once the bag is open, beware of your inclinations. Keep the candy bowl at the door, not next to your sofa or wherever you're hanging out for the evening. Out of sight and out of reach is where you want it stashed. Have a healthier treat on hand. No hunger, no deprivation, no junk!
If you're taking out kids take a healthier treat with you. You won't feel deprived and you won't be taking from the little guys who are working hard for their sugar-laden treasures.
My favourite: Buy something like stickers or little toys or figurines to give out, don't even give out junky food, just make sure you keep it fun for the kids, they'll get over "not chocolate" if you they get "Frozen" stickers.
Most important! Almost everyone will be tempted with candy of some sort today, and most of us will say yes to at least something. If there's any day it's ok to have a piece of candy it's today. But set a good realistic limit as to what is appropriate. Have that number of pieces in your head as a marker and "pace yourself" accordingly. Realistic limits, because I know you're wondering, are 2 today and save 1 for tomorrow as an example. If you've got kids you may get away with 5 all together, but remember it only tastes good when it feels good. And it doesn't feel good when you're beating yourself up for ruining your hard efforts you put in the rest of the time. As we truly all know most of life is best enjoyed in moderation!
Best wishes for a Spooky Halloween!
